Prepayment of house rent
SiÅs does not require a deposit. Instead, we ask for a prepayment of the rent.

Please note that tuition fees must be paid to NMBU - not to SiÅs!

No residence permit

EU citizens are required to prepay house rent of NOK 10.000,- to SiÅs within January 1st (Spring semester) and July 1st  (Autumn semester) If you receive your contract after January/July 1st, the prepayment should be in the SiÅs account no later than 14 days after you have been assigned the contract.

Currencies Accepted

Transfers in other currencies is permitted, such as transfer in USD $ or EURO €.
Upon receipt, the bank will automatically convert rent to NOK for a fee of 100 - 200 NOK. On the day of the transfer, your bank should be able to make the currency conversion, but you can also check the DNB Currency Converter.

 

Residence permit - Instructions for funds transfer

International students must document sufficient funds when applying for the study permit. After being accepted at NMBU, new students must transfer funds to a Norwegian bank account. To facilitate the transfer of funds, SiÅs offers a service whereby funds can be transferred to a bank account administrated by SiÅs. Transfer Amount

For the study year 2024-2025 the immigrations authorities require documentation of financing in the amount of NOK 151 690,- Double degree students studying only one semester at NMBU, can transfer funds for the relevant semester. The student shall bear transaction costs charged by all banks. SiÅs will provide confirmation once the funds are received in Norway for the study permit application.

Each year UDI increases the amount. For the academic for 24/25 the amount is NOK 151 690,-. Since applicants received admission before the new amount is published, UDI accepts the amount for the previous year.

Deadline 

The funds must be transferred in one installment no later than 15 May to start the study permit process. In extraordinary circumstances the deadline might be extended as noted on the admission letter. SiÅs takes no responsibility for funds that cannot be identified or have been transferred after the deadline. If you cannot meet the deadline, the admission offer will be withdrawn and we advise you to apply again next year.

If the student fails to obtain a residence permit, the funds will be transferred back to the student.

Access to Funds 

Once funds are transferred to the SiÅs account, funds can be accessed in the following ways ONLY:

  • Prepaid debit card can be requested. The cost of the card is NOK 600-, and a usage fee of NOK 10,-/month. Please note that once you have received the card, it cannot be returned to SiÅs and exchanged back for cash or transferred to another bank account.

  • After arrival in Norway and the student opens an account, the funds can be transferred to the student's Norwegian bank account minus any applicable bank fees.

  • Funds are returned to home bank account if study permit is not granted.

  • Students living in SiÅs' housing authorize payment of rent. See section on Prepayment of rent.

Prepayment of rent

Housing is organized through the University Foundation for Student Life (SiÅS) and is a separate organization from NMBU. You can use part of these funds towards your house rent. A form is provided by SiÅs (Arrival form) to authorise the housing payment from your funds. Any questions regarding payment for accommodation should be directed to the housing office at the University Foundation for Student Life: utleie@sias.no.
