Construction of Student Housing at Pentagon
A Major Boost for NMBU Students
With support from the Norwegian government, an important construction project in the Pentagon area is one step closer to becoming a reality. The development will provide 489 new student housing units and contribute to a more stable and accessible housing market for NMBU students. The project places strong emphasis on sustainable solutions. Read more.
Significant Housing Expansion on Campus
Thanks to government funding, we are now able to move forward with the construction of new student housing in the Pentagon area — a major upgrade to the campus housing offering. Dyrø og Moen AS Arkitekter is the responsible applicant for the project, while Backe Østfold AS will carry out the construction of the new residences.
More Housing – Shorter Waiting Lists
SiÅs has worked closely with the NMBU student democracy to address the growing need for student accommodation. Once completed, the project will add approximately 489 new units to the Pentagon area. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025, with estimated completion in 5–6 years. The project aims to ease pressure on the private rental market and provide students with safer and more predictable housing options.
Sustainability in Focus
Sustainability is a central theme throughout the construction project. The new buildings will feature cross-laminated timber (CLT) as the main structural material, and existing concrete structures will be reused as foundations. The project will primarily consist of shared units (dorm-style housing), along with a number of studio apartments and units for couples — ensuring environmentally friendly and resource-efficient solutions.
A New Chapter for Pentagon
Once completed, the Pentagon area — a well-known and much-loved student neighborhood — will undergo a major transformation to meet modern needs. This redevelopment will offer current and future generations of students a safe, welcoming, and sustainable living environment.
