Semester Fee
The semester fee is a statutory fee for students in Norway. It is paid to the Student Welfare Organization and is used to support initiatives that improve welfare services for the students affiliated with the organization. The Student Welfare Organization in Ås (SiÅs) serves the students at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). If you are a student at NMBU and have paid the semester fee, you may use SiÅs’ services and offerings.
As a student at NMBU, you must pay the semester fee to SiÅs every semester. The semester fee for SiÅs is NOK 470 + an optional NOK 40 (a total of 510) to the Student and Academic International Assistance Fund (SAIH). The main task of SiÅs is to offer you, as a student, products and services that make your study life efficient and stimulating, and help ensure your well-being. The semester fee helps fund our services, which include student housing, Eika fitness centers, cafeterias and coffee bars, the Smia bookstore, and the student life center / health services. NMBU is responsible for collecting and registering the semester fee. If you have questions about payment, deadlines, confirmation of student registration, etc., you must therefore contact them.
The deadline for paying the semester fee is:
- September 15th for the autumn semester
- February 1st for the spring semester
Please note that student loans and grants will not be disbursed until you have paid the semester fee.
Financing
All SiÅs income goes back to the students. The goal is not to generate a financial profit, but to maintain a healthy economy that allows us to offer the best possible services to students. The semester fee helps fund important services for students. We also apply for government grants to build affordable student housing. NMBU supports us with free facilities and funding for health services.
